Bursa Trigger

(Balistes bursa)

The key to identifying the Bursa Trigger, are the red and yellow lines on the head joining the eye to the pectoral fin. The fins are almost colorless sometimes with a bronze tint. Males are larger and more colorful than females. Bursa triggers are easy to keep. All triggers are among the hardiest of all marine fish. Feed all kinds of live, frozen, and flake foods. Best to feed small amounts several times a day. We generally feed ours squid, shrimp (no preservatives, i.e. uncooked), mussels, and all kinds of chopped up fish. Bursa triggers do well with large angels, tangs, groupers, and other large species. However, they tend to fight with other triggers especially if they are similar in size.
