Black-finned Trigger

(Melichthys ringens)

The Black-Finned Trigger is the most peaceful of the all the triggers. It has a brownish colored body, jet-black fins and white lines lining the base of the fins. The one trait that differentiates it from the other Triggerfish is that it has an elongated chin. The Black-finned trigger is an excellent choice when it comes to choosing a Triggerfish for the fish-only aquarium. It is an excellent swimmer and will constantly swim back and forth across your aquarium. It has a decent disposition but should be kept with fish of similar size and aggressiveness. Like many other Triggerfish, the Black Finned Trigger is always hungry and will accept all foods, especially meaty foods. It is very hardy and will tolerate most conditions, as long as it has ample rockwork to sleep amongst at night and give it a solid sense of security. Keep in mind that the black-finned trigger grows quite large and thus should be kept with other large fish in a large aquarium.
